Ferry Boat Trail

(45.0 km)

As the name suggests, the cyclist will come across several ferries on this trail around the Alkmaarder and Uitgeester lake.

The spurs of the lake have spread out onto the landscape and to prevent too many detours, all those patches of water must be crossed. Instead of bridges, the landscape managers chose ferries. An old-fashioned yet effective means of transport. There are no less than five on this trail, two of which are in fact self-service winch ferries with which you pull yourself across the water as it were.

How it works
You cycle the trail with the help of the so-called junction system. A junction is a uniquely numbered spot where two cycle paths cross each other. The trails in this book are set out on the basis of these numbers. The only thing you have to do is follow the numbers in the sequence in which they are presented. You can recognise the junctions by the green and white signs along the way.

How do I get there?
Public transport from Amsterdam CS. Busline 301 in the direction of De Rijp. Get off at: Julianalaan in De Rijp.

From the bus stop to the bicycle rental
Keep the river to your left and walk the end of the street in the direction of the provincial road N244. On the other side of the provincial road you can see Hotel De Rijper Eilanden. The bicycle rental De Gouw is located here. In orde to get to the bicycle rental , turn left just before you reach the provincial rad (julianalaan). Take a right turn after crossing the little bridge and walk under the road in the direction of the hotel.

From the bicycle rental to the first junction
Again, cycle under the provincia road in the direction of the Rijp town centre. At the end of the Zuideinde take a right turn onto the Rechtestraat and continue until you reach junction 61.
