Between Alkmaar, the North Sea Canal and Zaanstad, you can enjoy excellent recreation. Recreation area Alkmaarder- en Uitgeestermeer offers a range of water sports facilities, agricultural activities and cultural heritage such as forts and windmills. Here you can swim, sail or practice water sports to your heart's content. From leisurely laps to challenging yourself on water skis or SUP boards: it's all possible here! Around the Alkmaarder- and Uitgeestermeer you will also find various sandy beaches, playing fields, (day) camping sites and various catering establishments with lovely waterside terraces.

On the eastern edge of Beverwijk you will find the Aagtenpark: a beautiful nature-strolling area. The many walking and cycling routes in this area lead you over winding dikes, along beautiful polders and the Alkmaarder and Uitgeestermeer lake.

    Of course, Laag Holland has swimming pools, but where nature allows, it is much more fun to take a refreshing dip in natural water. At recreation areas Zwaansmeer and Dorregeest there are sandy beaches and playing fields, and at the Hoorne in Akersloot you will find a large grassy area by the water.

  • Water sports

    Those who like a bit of action can go to
    De Deilings (near De Woudhaven), where you can come water-ski or wakeboard to your heart's content from May to October. There is a water-ski club here with a slalom course and a trailer ramp to put your boat in the water. Just apply for an exemption from the recreation authority first.

    There is nothing more fun than renting a sloop on a beautiful day and sailing gently along the Alkmaarder- and Uitgeestermeer Lake. Download the Sloepennetwerk app and map out a nice route yourself. The app provides information on kilometres, duration and nice terraces where you can moor.

    Windsurfers do their battle with the elements here, constantly looking for a thrill. On some days, the water looks colourful with coloured sails! East of Uitgeest near Dorregeest and Zwaansmeer are special surf banks where you can board. Kitesurfing is prohibited here.

    A supper on the Alkmaarder and Uitgeestermeer lake

    Instead of acrobatics on water skis or wakeboard, it is fun to explore the Alkmaarder- and Uitgeestermeer lake from a canoe or on a SUP-board. The nature area between Krommenie and Uitgeest lends itself perfectly to long trips with its endless network of narrow ditches.

    Glide across the water with your own strings attached! Hang on to the more than 600 hectares of water of the Alkmaarder- en Uitgeestermeer and slalom from one side to the other. You can even moor at the Pannekoek island in the middle of the lake or at the Hoorne recreation area.

The brand new 'Erfgoedpark de Hoop' is located on the Uitgeestermeer lake. A beautiful green and watery environment where there is plenty to do for every holiday lover. Here, you can undertake various water sports activities, explore the surroundings and spend the night in glamping lodges, luxury holiday homes or in the B&B.

Cycling and hiking - around lake Alkmaarder and Uitgeestermeer

Apart from the fact that the Alkmaarder and Uitgeestermeer lends itself perfectly to water recreation, you can also enjoy cycling and walking here. The many walking and cycling routes in the region lead you over winding dykes, along polders and along the Alkmaarder and Uitgeestermeer lake. So grab your bike or put on your walking shoes and go exploring!
