The area between Alkmaar, the North Sea Canal and Zaanstad offers excellent opportunities for leisure activities. On the eastern edge of Beverwijk lies the Aagtenpark: a beautiful nature reserve and walking area. This park forms a link between the town and the countryside, including the Rorik estate in the Buitenlanden recreation area and the forts of the Defence Line of Amsterdam. The many walking and cycling routes in this region take you along winding dykes, past beautiful polders and the Alkmaardermeer and Uitgeestermeer lakes.
