Cycling and walking in and around Oostzaan are wonderful, with routes surrounded by the green Oostzanerveld and the vast recreation area Het Twiske. On the eastern side of Oostzaan lies recreation area Het Twiske, a paradise for nature lovers and adventurers. Cycle, walk or ride a horse along the beautiful paths and discover highlights such as the Twiskemolen and Boerderijwinkel De Marsen. Explore the green meadows with Scottish Highlanders or enjoy water fun on the Stootersplas and the New Twiske with seven beaches. Children can have a great time at the Adventure Playground and Speelsloot. For the adventurous, there are mountain bike trails and an underwater park or you can canoe, whisper sail, sail and surf. The Oostzanerveld - Discover this unique Natura 2000 area from the water!
The Oostzanerveld is a unique peat meadow landscape that looks much like a patchwork quilt from above. Hundreds of small patches in various shades of green separated by a tangle of ditches and canals. A canoe or boat trip through Oostzanerveld offers a serene experience in the middle of nature, as you paddle through narrow waterways to discover a vast peat landscape full of reeds, bird calls and floral displays. It is a peaceful escape, perfect for nature lovers and adventurers!
Canoeing through the Oostzanerveld
Enjoy a leisurely paddle through the Oostzanerveld. On the islands, you often see animals such as cows, horses, sheep and goats tending the meadows. There are also numerous birds flying around, including lapwings, godwits, wigeons, buzzards and marsh harriers. There is so much to see!

Laag Holland
Gemeente Oostzaan is part of the region Laag Holland. Laag Holland is a unique piece of real Holland above the North Sea Canal. This unique former national landscape is characterised by its unique location below sea level. Man and nature have worked together to create something beautiful below sea level, which is reflected in the openness, the beautiful straight lines and the protected town and village views. Old mills, reclaimed land, wide views and space for peace and nature, where a visit to picturesque villages and towns can be alternated with unique activities in nature.
