A gem in an urban setting - Enjoying the green near Amsterdam

The Oostzanerveld is a gem in an urban environment. Here, people and animals enjoy the hundreds of islands and many ditches in peace and quiet.... And that under the smoke of Amsterdam! These small islands used to be used as grazing land for cattle. Using a flatboat, the farmer would sail to milk the cows or move them between the islands. These farmers were called vaarboeren, and a small number of them are still active, such as De Vaarboerderij in Oostzaan.

3x cycling through the Oostzanerveld - Which cycling route will you cycle?

Oostzaan and its green surroundings are a wonderful region for endless cycling. Here, you will therefore find many beautiful cycling routes, each with its own theme. Each of the routes leads you through the typically Dutch landscape and takes you along the highlights of the region.     The route takes you past the typical windmills through this area. You start at NDSM square and cycle through the working-class neighbourhoods of Amsterdam-Noord past windmill d'Admiraal into the rural core of Landsmeer.
