Dorregeesterpolderroute
Getting some fresh air in the middle of the typically Dutch landscape is perhaps the best thing there is. The Dorregeesterpolder route introduces you to the beautiful landscape along the banks of the Uitgeestermeer. An absolute must!
Only one fence separates you from the wetlands. You need not fear getting your feet wet, as the route has many bridges that allow you to cross dry. When the gate closes, the sheep will soon notice you and come curiously to have a look. They might even join you for a short walk! Apart from sheep, the nature reserve is home to Highland cattle and, with a bit of luck, (meadow) birds left behind after the summer, such as the black-tailed godwit, redshank and lapwing. So for the real bird lovers, there are many spotting spots to be found.
Walking on top of the large dike, you have a magnificent view of the Alkmaarder and Uitgeestermeer lake. Arriving at the viewpoint, it is high time to take your rest there and enjoy the view.

After a short break, you will come across the Dorregeestermolen from 1896 along the way. This mill was used to drain the surrounding area and is still sometimes put to work today. After the mill, you walk back to recreation area Dorregeest via Klein Dorregeest and Groot Dorregeest. Along the way, you can enjoy the beautiful farmlands after which you can reminisce about the lovely walk in peace at the recreation area.
