You really experience life with the water when crossing the ferry at Spijkerboor. This unique ferry takes you, together with your bicycle, across the water to the other side. Here you can see the historic village De Rijp on the left and Fort Spijkerboor on the right, across the water.
From here, continue along the Westdijk towards Schermerhorn. Here, depending on the season, you will find beautiful fields filled with tulips, cows and unique views. At Huize Nuis, the tea garden is open on nice days and children can play to their heart's content in the playground, on the trampoline or with the friendly farm animals. You then enter the Noordbeemster via the village of Schermerhorn. Farmers here, but also in other places in the Beemster, regularly have local produce shops and stalls along the road. So you can collect all kinds of tasty products for home on the route.
Time for a break? Get off at Brasserie de Kerkhaen, a special spot under the church of the same name in West Beemster. Not an official tea garden, but it does have a delicious terrace ín the garden. Here, they work as much as possible with local products from the surroundings of De Beemster. So the cheese, bread, fruit, eggs and juices all come from the polder. After this stop, continue on to Middenbeemster.
Tip: Make a stop at the Beemster Visitor Centre. The stately mansion from 1878 houses VVV Beemster. Here you'll find great souvenirs such as postcards, books and mugs, as well as handmade Beemster soaps, hand and tea towels and VVV gift vouchers. In the classically decorated farmer's garden, there is an orchard with several old varieties of standard fruit and a source gas installation as used to be present in many places in the Beemster. Via Middenbeemster, with its lovely historic centre, you are guided back towards Zuidoostbeemster.
On the way, you will have the chance to stop at the Beemster Arboretum, among other places. At the Beemster Arboretum you will find the tree museum and cosy, cosy tea garden. This tree museum is freely accessible and really a very special place.
