On 30 July 1610, the dykes decided not to further repair the old dike and to build a new one across the land of De Rijp . According to the accountants, this would be cheaper. A new dike would cost fl 24,704, while repairing the old one would cost fl 24,300. The advantage was that the new ring ditch and dike would be built on the 'old' land, on a firmer foundation.
