Stalletje Vollebregt
On the facade of the striking farmhouse on Wormerweg in Westbeemster is the name Berkelhoeve, a reference to Berkel in South Holland, where grandfather Jan Vollebregt came from. In 1977, he traded the hustle and bustle of the Randstad for the peace and quiet of the Beemster.
Now the family business, which covers 85 hectares, is run by the second and third generations: Sjaak, Sjors and Jannes Vollebregt. They grow sprouts, potatoes, onions, wheat and grass seed, with sprouts being the main product.
For sustainable soil management, they grow wheat and grass seed to keep the fields in good condition, as intensive cultivation of sprouts, onions or potatoes would deplete the soil. In the cart at the gate of the Berkelhoeve, you can buy fresh sprouts, potatoes and onions, depending on the season. The Brussels sprouts are picked fresh daily, so you don't have to cut off the butts - just rinse them off and into the pan! The potatoes are suitable for cooking as well as making fries.
