Ommetje Beetskoog-West
This is a walk for nature lovers! During this route, you walk through wonderfully peaceful polder landscape where meadow birds are regularly present in large numbers.
The black-tailed godwit, wigeon and golden plover like to linger here and it is obvious why. There is a lot of peace and quiet here. Walk along the Beemsterringvaart and enjoy the beautiful views over the water and on the vast polder landscape. Hear the silence as you cross the Grote Waterling by the draw ferry. For that true rural feeling, stop along the way at Bezoekboerderij de Kastanjehoeve. You are welcome to cuddle a cow here.

Oudendijk, named after the Oude Dijck of the monumental Westfriese Omringdijk, is characterised by its age, shown by the visible dalie holes in the area. In the 11th and 12th centuries, farmers dug these holes to bring up sulphur and clay for fertilisation, which is still visible as large dark holes in the meadows, especially when it snows. De Beemster, one of the oldest reclaimed land in Laag Holland, was reclaimed at the beginning of the 17th century by the Court of Holland, supported by wealthy Amsterdam merchants. Jan Adriaanszoon Leeghwater led this revolutionary project, which involved raising a 42km-long dyke and draining the lake with 43 mills in 1612, to rationally reorganise the Beemster as farmland.
Church of Beets
Beets' 15th-century village church is well worth a visit. The floral ornaments on the vaulting, presumably made by Norwegian whalers in the early 17th century, are certainly unique.

Like the equally old baptismal railing, the beautifully carved pulpit, the tower clock by the famous bell founders François and Pierre Hemony from 1650 and the beautiful 19th-century Flaes organ.
It is also possible to rent a space in the church. Have you been married for twenty-five years? Looking for a nice space for a staff party? Want to hold a painting or didgeridoo-blowing course, a special women's evening or a meeting.
In a seventeenth-century entourage, your party, meeting or workshop will clearly carry more weight than just any room somewhere.
At Beets Church, you can choose from three venues: small and simple, larger and chic, or grand and monumental. Customised high-quality catering can be arranged through the church administration or the Village Hall, as well as simple dressed-up drinks.
