The neighbourhood offered plenty of places to have a drink. On 'high days', this could also be at the barber's or the carriage maker's.
Cafés were mainly known by the name of the manager. Café Beunder. Café Molenaar. Sometimes a name changed. Like with the arrival of the tram line in 1895. The 'Bonte Paard' suddenly became
'Station coffee house'. The 'Brown Horse' in the market square was renamed 'Tramzicht' for the same reason. Each 'stand' had its own catering establishment.
