4x a day at the beach - Small-scale and unique recreation

In the Het Twiske recreation area, you can enjoy endless recreation. Even those who prefer to be in the water rather than on it are in good hands here. Het Twiske has seven different beaches. These beaches are also called green beaches, because the sand turns into grass. All are equally fun and cosy, but they all have their own distinctive features. However, most beaches do offer the opportunity to buy a nice drink or snack and visit the toilets. A selection of the Twisker beaches are highlighted below.

1. The Speelsloot

For real water rats

The Speelsloot is a delight for children who love a challenge. The beach is decorated as an Indian village with two colourful wigwams and a totem pole. You can only get across the water by means of a raft, obstacle course, or cableway. There is also a playground and a watchtower offering a panoramic view of Het Twiske.

2. Doesstrand

Sunbathing, swimming and relaxing

Het Twiske is also a great place for those looking for relaxation. At Doesstrand, you can enjoy the sun on your towel with a good book, but also cool off in the water or play around. In summer, kiosk Puur Twiske satisfies the appetite with a refreshing ice cream or fresh fries. For those who really don't want to do anything, Doesstrand is the first beach after the main entrance to Oostzaan. Nice and easy!

3. The Schoorl beach

For those seeking peace and quiet

The Schoorl beach is a cosy family beach where all ages can feel at home. Besides the usual beach fun, you will also find the Smaal, the only landscaped wooded area in Het Twiske. If you don't feel like swimming, you can take a lovely walk through a wide variety of flora and fauna, such as pedunculate oaks, alders and beeches. The spotted woodpecker, eurasian jay and chiffchaff can also be spotted here.

4. Leers peninsula

Be surprised at this special beach

The beach on peninsula de Leers is full of surprises. You might not expect it, in the middle of North Holland, but what makes this beach so special is that you can do some excellent diving! In the water around the peninsula, there are a number of diving platforms indicating interesting diving objects. Beginners and experienced divers can visit Dive Centre Down Under or Dive School Pottidiving for lessons or advice. Those who prefer to watch the diving from a distance can of course sunbathe or swim on the small beach, but don't be alarmed if a Scottish Highlander suddenly blocks your sun...
