Visit the awards ceremony at P3 and discover the winning poster for the 25th Purmerend Art Route.

This year, there is a special edition of the Purmerend Art Route: on 3 and 4 October, we’re celebrating its 25th anniversary! For a quarter of a century now, artists in Purmerend, Zuidoostbeemster and Kwadijk have been opening their doors to introduce visitors to their art.

An anniversary calls for something special. Because we believe it is important for children and young people to be given the opportunity to develop their artistic skills from an early age, we challenged pupils from the Jan van Egmond College to design a poster for this celebratory edition.
The design had to incorporate the theme ‘Purmerend …’ at the very least.

This year, there is a special edition of the Purmerend Art Route: on 3 and 4 October, we are celebrating its 25th edition! For a quarter of a century now, artists in Purmerend, Zuidoostbeemster and Kwadijk have been opening their doors to introduce visitors to their art.

An anniversary calls for something special. Because we believe it is important for children and young people to be given the opportunity to develop their artistic talents from an early age, we challenged pupils from the Jan van Egmond College to design a poster for this festive edition.
The design had to feature the theme ‘Purmerend & Beemster’. The pupils in Year 4 of HAVO/VWO set to work enthusiastically, and the results were impressive. The 50 designs created by the pupils, each with its own style and creative approach, demonstrate just how much young talent and imagination there is. This bodes well for the city’s cultural future.

An expert jury of teachers and artists was then faced with the difficult task of making a selection. In the end, 25 designs were selected for an exhibition at the P3 Pop and Culture Centre (on display until 4 October). From these, five posters were also chosen which, according to the jury, had that little bit extra.

But of course, there can only be one winner!
The identity of the winning designer will remain a surprise for a little while longer. On Friday 28 August at 2.00 pm, Marjon de Jong, headteacher of Jan van Egmond College, will announce the winner during a festive gathering at P3. The stakes are high, as this year’s winning poster will become the face of the Art Route.

The design will be used to promote the Art and Shopfront Route. From 5 September, the poster will be prominently displayed in the town centre and along the main roads leading into Purmerend, partly to draw attention to a fun public campaign we are organising especially for the anniversary during ‘Art in the Shop Windows’. From 5 to 28 September, the public (including shoppers) can vote for their favourite artwork on the theme of Purmerend & Beemster, on display in 36 shop windows in Purmerend town centre. Three voters will have the chance to win their chosen artwork as a prize. The first 100 voters will, upon handing in their form at the Tourist Information Centre, receive a miniature artwork created by an artist from the Kunstcollectief.

Are you curious to find out which pupil has created the best design? You are warmly welcome to join us at P3 on 28 August from 1.30 pm to witness the unveiling.
