North-Hollandpad | Stage 10

(15 km)

The North-Holland path is 284 km long and is divided into 16 stages. Stage 10 takes you from Schermerhorn to Akersloot through the Land of Leeghwater. It is a short but varied walk. Discover it soon and head out!

This varied stage is 15 kilometres. You walk through the Land of Leeghwater and the reclaimed land reclamation areas of De Schermer and De Beemster, both reclaimed in the Golden Age. Characteristic features of De Schermer and De Beemster are the geometric layout of the roads and ditches and the cheese-cover farmhouses with their pyramid roofs and square farmyards. De Beemster was declared a Unesco World Heritage Site for this in 1999 and in De Schermer, the eleven centuries-old windmills still define the landscape. One of the mills is now a museum. During the breeding season, part of the stage is closed to walkers. Alternative routes are listed in the route descriptions.

*Breeding season variant (15 Mar.-15 June) 19 - 44 - 32 - 43.
