Forest weather route

(8 km)

The Woudweeren route passes through canals and ditches, starting from picturesque Broek in Waterland. The route is easy to follow using the green place name signs along the water.

Broek in Waterland 's economic history is well reflected in the village's buildings. For a long time, a large part of the Broekers earned their living in fishing and later in cattle farming. Due to floods and livestock diseases, the farmers' existence was sometimes hard. A great contrast to the life of the rich captains and merchants from Amsterdam who settled here in the seventeenth century. Some of the stately houses with beautiful interiors can still be visited. From the water, you have a good view of the characteristic wooden houses with their soft pastel shades.

Broek in Waterland 's economic history is well reflected in the village's buildings. For a long time, many Broekers earned their living in fishing and later in cattle breeding.

The grasslands around Broek in Waterland teem with food for birds. Black-tailed godwits drill their long snalves for bugs in the ground, lapwings and redshanks glide gracefully through the air. From the boat, you peek unobtrusively between the reed beds at this busy affair in the field. In the distance, you can already see the church tower of Watergang. Through the farm ditches you sail to the little village with its black-tiled hay houses on the Dorpsstraat. Be seduced by the traditional buildings and rich nature during a boating trip in Waterland.

Tip If you still have time left after your boat trip, the Broeker Church with its old ceiling painting is definitely worth a visit.
