Owl corner route

(8 km)

The Uilenhoek route is a circular walk on the Beemsterringdijk with a cut through De Beemster.

Walking along the high grassy dike surrounding the Beemster, you have stunning views on both sides. On one side, the austere lines of De Beemster reclaimed land dominate; on the other side of the ring canal are the old peat polders of Mijzen and Beetskoog. Panels along the dike feature poems by Bram Vermeulen. Along the way, you pass characteristic cheese-cover farmhouses, canals with wide reed beds and green meadows where cows graze or meadow birds search for insects. Sometimes a flock of sheep joins you for a short walk along the dike. On this route, you experience the beauty of the real Dutch polder landscape, like walking through a postcard.
