Kwakel Bridge

The Kwakel bridge is one of the few wooden 'seesaw bridges' still in existence in Edam. A yoke divides the downward-hanging chain into two parts, to which the flap is attached.

The 'sprite' is the upper beam of the bridge; at the end, it is widened with such a weight that the bridge is raised by means of a strong tug on the chain. From the bridge you have a nice view of the shipyard on the Boerenverdriet (part of the water) and the play tower. A very rewarding spot for photographers.
