Dutch Reformed Great Church
The Dutch Reformed (Grote) Church (1655) is particularly famous for its 23 stained-glass windows (Rijper Glazen). The tombstone floor in the church is actually a large collection of small monuments.
A famous Rijper who is buried here is Jan Boon and his wife Trijntje Lakeman. Also worth mentioning are the organ, the beautiful woodwork and the church's interior. In the church you will also find a model of a herring tub, the type of ship used by Rijpers to fish for herring for centuries.
Next to the church is the statue of 17th century Rijper sailor Jan Janszn. Weltevree, who was captured in Korea and made it to advisor to the emperor. In memory of Weltevree (called 'Pak Yon Sang' in Korea), you will find a statue made by Elly Baltus next to the Grote Kerk in De Rijp. A copy of this statue can be found in Seoul (South Korea).
