Wedding bell
In Volendam's harbour, you will find a simple wooden belfry dating from 1771 with a Wedding Bell. Years ago, young couples who got married in marriage were festively welcomed here by friends and family. Before the
as the expectant couple was welcomed on the Dike, they had signed the official papers at the town hall in Edam. By boat, the couple returned to Volendam and arrived at the harbour and walked to the Bell Tower amid loud chiming. Today, the Wedding Bell is a national monument and can still be viewed in the harbour.
