Soul is more than just music. It is fire, pain, hope, passion and longing. And nowhere does it sound as raw and authentic as in New York, the city that never sleeps.
In this intimate, acoustic performance, singer Jennie Lena takes you to the beating heart of soul: from gospel churches in Harlem to smoky jazz clubs in Brooklyn, via The Bitter End in Manhattan — where Donny Hathaway recorded his legendary live album — and the iconic Apollo Theatre. Places where history crackles and where Jennie herself has graced the stage.
Expect captivating and playful stories about her musical adventures in New York, swinging classics, unexpected gems and the atmosphere of a city where soul is both sung and lived.
In 2016, Jennie made her breakthrough on The Voice of Holland with her version of ‘Who’s Loving You’, which has been viewed more than 50 million times on YouTube. She has since performed on many international stages.
