Age of Innocence | Film

Come to the Grote Kerk in Schermerhorn on Friday 25 September at 8.00 pm for the opening of our special two-weekend exhibition: the story of the boy who crossed the ocean

It begins with Martin Scorsese’s acclaimed 1993 film *The Age of Innocence*, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer and Winona Ryder.
Set in 1870s New York, the film transports us to the world of old New York families, where tradition, ambition, love and social expectations clash.
It is a fitting introduction to the exhibition, which explores how the name Schermerhorn travelled from a small village in North Holland to New Amsterdam and secured a place in American history. Five centuries of migration, ambition, scandal and survival come to life through portraits, film, concerts and stories.
