Sinterklaas parade in Purmerend
A special moment for young and old: Sinterklaas arrives in Purmerend. During the annual arrival parade, the town is abuzz with preparations for his festive welcome.
Along the route (between the Kanaalkade and the Koemarkt), children, parents and grandparents gather to welcome Sinterklaas and his helpers. There is singing, waving and, of course, exuberant cheering as soon as the steamboat comes into view. After his arrival, Sinterklaas continues his journey through the streets of the city centre towards the Koemarkt, where the festivities continue with music, activities and plenty of fun.
At around 1.30 pm, Sinterklaas will arrive by steamboat at the lock on the Kanaalkade. He will then ride on horseback through the town centre via the Gedempte Where, Peperstraat and Dubbele Buurt to the Koemarkt. Here, there will be a festive welcome with music, time for dancing and, of course, plenty of pepernoten. At around 3.00 pm, St Nicholas will wave goodbye and, together with his helpers, bid farewell to Purmerend.
