Winter is almost upon us, and this is evident in every aspect of nature. Join a nature guide from Landschap Noord-Holland on 15 November for a boat trip through the Eilandspolder to see how everything is preparing for winter.
The meadow birds have migrated, and in their place thousands of winter visitors have arrived. Wigeons are particularly common. The ditches and small lakes are teeming with them. There they rest, and at night they feast on the grass in the meadows. A wigeon is a magnificent species of duck that drifts about in large flocks and takes flight as a group when (perceived) danger threatens. Large numbers of golden plovers can also be spotted in the meadows from time to time. Along the water’s edge, the reeds are turning yellow, and in the distance and on the many islands, the trees are already displaying stunning autumn colours. From the excursion boat, the natural beauty of the Eilandspolder is truly breathtaking. A lovely outing on a Sunday morning in autumn, and afterwards you can warm up with hot chocolate and pancakes at Driehuizen!
