‘Treat her like a lady’ is an energetic and colourful film by the Dutch-Chilean director and screenwriter Paloma Aguilera Valdebenito, starring Nienke Plas in the lead role. Single mother Sandra lives in Amsterdam with her daughters Harrie and Stella and is barely making ends meet. As the unpaid bills keep piling up and she is accused of fraud, Sandra has to pull out all the stops to keep her children out of the care system. This battle against the system seems an impossible task. But Sandra refuses to be beaten. Ever the optimist, she is determined to give her daughters the summer of their lives. A poignant story told beautifully, with candy-coloured visuals and, at times, absurdist humour.
