Nadja Filtzer as Edith Piaf

A compilation of the grand and compelling life story of the street performer who went on to become the grande dame of French chanson. Between 2015 and 2019, they performed around 125 shows, many of which were sold out to wildly enthusiastic audiences, from Sneek to Maastricht and at the Brighton Fringe Festival, Songs such as ‘Rien de Rien’ and ‘La Vie en Rose’ feature in the show, as well as their own Dutch translations and lesser-known gems.

Nadja: ‘I feel a kinship with Piaf. Coincidentally, we’re both petite, and our fathers – whom we’ve had to do without since we were young – were both called Louis. But it is above all through her music that I step into her shoes, connecting with her melancholy, her irresistible zest for life and her fiery temperament, which I recognise from my Mexican-Russian roots.’

Upon winning the audience award at the 2009 Concours de la Chanson – Alliance Française, Liesbeth List praised ‘her courage’ and singled out Nadja’s rendition of Piaf’s ‘La Foule Impeccable’.

Nadja Filtzer – winner of the 2009 Concours de la Chanson Audience Award She graduated as an actress and has now been a professional chansonnière, actress, entertainer, songwriter and theatre maker for 28 years. She sings jazz, Brazilian music, tango, French and her own Dutch chansons, soul and sentimental ballads as ‘Tante Sjaan’. With her Ukrainian-Jewish-Mexican-Dutch roots, Nadja combines the melancholy of old Europe with the passion of Latin America.
