In the 1950s and 1960s, Johnny Cash realised his own ‘American dream’. He worked his way up from being the son of a cotton picker to a superstar with his own television show. He was a true storyteller, but he didn’t always stick strictly to the truth.
Joost Botman delves into the history of Cash, ‘The Man in Black’. His story is full of contradictions: drug use and religion, patriotism and self-importance, a family man with a fascination for dark themes.
In *The True Johnny Cash*, Botman takes you on a gripping journey, recounting the story of the iconic singer with his distinctive deep voice in a captivating and at times dryly humorous manner. Botman’s warm voice is a perfect match for Cash’s songs. Guitarist Jos Kolenberg accompanies Botman.
Joost Botman is a guitarist and singer. He toured the country for five years with a musical theatre programme about Simon & Garfunkel.
