Around 1875, Volendam was first discovered as a tourist resort. Volendam was a picturesque village: the people in their ornate costumes, the wooden houses built close together against and at the bottom of the dike, with their interiors full of statues of saints, the harbour with its hundreds of red-sailed fishing boats.
De city walk Volendammerdagen start vanaf het VVV kantoor, Zeestraat 37 (naast Volendams museum) in Volendam.
