100 reasons to Purmerend and The Beemster (again) at discover

The municipality of Purmerend, with its town, historic centre and the iconic De Beemster polder, is full of surprises. Whilst the municipality is often portrayed as the underdog, it has an undeservedly negative image. But whilst others may sometimes have their doubts, the organisations involved have long known that this region is brimming with special places, fascinating stories, expansive natural landscapes, a rich culture and genuine hospitality – all of which make this area so unique.

Collaboration leads to 100 unique experiences

It is from this sense of pride that the Purmerend & De Beemster Bucket List was created: a list of 100 special places, activities and experiences that showcases just how diverse and surprising the municipality is. It is an invitation from the organisers to residents to take a fresh look at their own surroundings.

The Purmerend Historical Society, VISIT Beemster, Purmerend Tourist Information Centre and Laag Holland Tourist Board are the initiators of the bucket list. Drawing on their own knowledge, experience as residents and enthusiasm, they have collectively compiled no fewer than 100 (!) bucket list items. The enthusiasm was boundless, and thoughts are already turning to a follow-up. The bucket list comprises a diverse mix of attractions in the town and the Beemster Polder World Heritage Site.

The Purmerend & De Beemster Bucket List is a joint initiative of the Vereniging Historisch Purmerend, VISIT Beemster, VVV Purmerend and the Laag Holland Tourist Board. Together, they have compiled a list of 100 special places, activities and stories from Purmerend and De Beemster.
