2. City Walk Volendam - with guide in authentic costume

Experience the charm of Volendam on a unique guided city walk

Every Saturday at 14:00, a special walk of about an hour departs through Volendam. The guide takes you along the most beautiful spots of the village and shares the best stories and historical facts. The walk starts at the VVV office and is in Dutch. Sign up and join the walk!

Cost: €6.50 per adult and children up to 4 years old are free.

3. Fish bites & discovering the music

Which fish do you choose?

Kibbeling, herring or eel? Nothing beats a fresh fish on Volendam's world-famous Dijk, but besides the delicious fish, it is also the Volendam music that makes the village so popular. At the Palingsound Museum at Paviljoen Smit-Bokkum, you will discover the origins of the palingsound, learn about the musical families and experience the unique sounds that have made Volendam famous. In travel guides, you sometimes read that Volendammers are always dressed in traditional costume, but nothing could be further from the truth. Only on special holidays might you see the residents of this charming fishing village in traditional dress. Still, it is a nice tradition for visitors to have their own picture taken in traditional costume, and for that, there are several photo studios in Volendam where you can do this. But don't forget that the surroundings of Volendam are also incredibly photogenic, with quaint streets, picturesque houses and the beautiful view over the Markermeer. In short, it is definitely worth bringing your camera and capturing Volendam's unique atmosphere!

7. Get on your bike and explore the area

Enjoy the surrounding villages
