Wolthuisbridge

Wolthuis bridge – IBA and Henk Meijer of Kerste-Meijer Architects (2008)

The bridge was the first in the Netherlands to be constructed with Very High Strength Concrete. Connection to winding cycle and pedestrian paths inspired the graceful character of the bridge.

This is also seen in the railings, which have 'lianas' that wrap around the balusters. A design that harks back to the Jugendstil. The 'lianas' are made of matt stainless steel, in which 'leaves' of glass fragments have been incorporated.
