Fiery Tail route

While in the Purmer the huge, vast grasslands dominate, the old polder Vurige Staart is characterised by small-scale pasture plots. The area's unusual name is probably related to the cattle disease anthrax that used to be common here.

With your head in the sun, walk along the dike and enjoy the view over the meadows. You pass by a patch of special peat moss reedland, where peat moss and also ferns are found. You can still see from the type of plants that the salty Zuiderzee once had a lot of influence here.

• Dogs are not allowed on the Purmerdijk. On the rest of the route, dogs are allowed on a leash.
