Noorderveenpad
The Noorderveen path takes you through the marshy Noorderveen nature reserve. Walking through the typical Dutch landscape, so close to Westzaan and Assendelft, you can enjoy an oasis of calm.
This delightful walk starts near Dorpsstraat 687. Here you step over the crossing fence to enter the farmer's land. With luck, you'll encounter some fragile plant and rare animal species in this peat meadow area. Think orchid and sundew or the small mud creeper, water vole or water shrew. Oh and look, there among the reeds a bittern is hiding!
Via the boggy footpath, a small bridge and self-service footbridge, you cross the farmer's land towards 687 Dorpsstraat. Tip: put on boots or sturdy shoes, because it is a boot path for a reason. Walk past the cows grazing peacefully in the meadow and enjoy the beautiful views. In the distance, you can even see the little tower of Assendelft! It is a short but adventurous walk, so put on those boots quickly and get going.
