After its invention in 1839, photography spread around the world at lightning speed. Nowadays almost everyone takes photographs, at home and when travelling. Why do we actually speak of "regional" or "local" photography?
As if photographers working in a big city are not also local! For some reason, we associate "local" with smaller municipalities. The region that the Waterlands Archive covers is 0.000057% of the entire earth's surface. That is little. But does that also make the photography from that region insignificant or unimportant? Although Hans Rooseboom works for a national museum (the Rijksmuseum) that collects photos from all parts of the world, in his lecture he will make a case for more attention and appreciation for "local photography".
The lecture starts at 8pm; beforehand, the exhibition Gefotografeerd in regio Waterland can be viewed from 7.15pm.
Pre-registration is required. This can be done via aanmelden@waterlandsarchief.nl or www.waterlandsarchief.nl via the Agenda. When registering, please mention the date May 27.
