There is also plenty of art to see this summer at the Kerkhof Overweersepolderdijk Gallery and Sculpture Garden in Purmerend. From 17 July to 9 August, artists Bertina van Leen and Martien Schenk will be exhibiting in the chapel.
Bertina van Leen’s paintings and boxes are an ode to the imagination. No surface or medium is too big or too small for adventures to unfold. “What am I looking at?” a visitor asked recently, “The longer I look, the more I see.” And that is precisely the intention.
Bertina’s work is colourful and full of strange little creatures and whimsical shapes. Your eye is drawn from one point to another, and you keep discovering something new.
Martien Schenk creates objects from wood, usually featuring angular geometric shapes. He works with various beautiful types of wood, such as walnut, oak and cherry. During furniture-making courses, he gained extensive experience with the techniques and tools required for woodworking. He draws inspiration not only from literature but also from forms and structures in public spaces.
