Every evening in winter, dozens of great white egrets flock from the wider area to their communal roost in the Wormer and Jisperveld. It is a fantastic spectacle to see these large white birds flying in from all directions at dusk and settling in the trees. At night, the waters of the Merken are covered with a carpet of hundreds of sleeping gulls.
