For Pieter Borstlap, drawing is not a fixed goal, but a way of looking. From an early age, he observed his surroundings with great attention and precision. This keen eye forms the basis for his later work and teaching practice.

As a drawing teacher and lecturer at Amsterdam's Hogeschool voor Beeldende Vorming, Borstlap inspires generations of pupils. He encourages them not to copy what they see, but to look for coherence, rhythm and meaning. Composition is always his guiding principle, both in figurative and abstract work.

After his early retirement in 1988, Borstlap devoted himself entirely to his own artistry. The exhibition follows the lines of his life: from childhood and teaching to free work and his last drawings.

Created in collaboration with his family, friends and former pupils, the exhibition is a tribute to a talented young man from 's Gravenmoer who grew into a successful Grafter artist.
