At the request of Waterlandsmuseum de Speeltoren, Kris Spinhoven drew and painted in Waterland for a year.

Kris Spinhoven (1959) is a master of painting outdoors, of directly depicting what she perceives. Sumi ink and oil paint are the two materials she works with. The black ink is unrelenting: you can't get rid of what is there. Her sumi drawings are thought from rhythm and direction. Oil paint is colour. Each season has its own typical colours. In April the delicate first green of spring, in summer flowers in every possible saturated colour, in autumn purple-blue palm fronds against yellow flowers.

This exhibition features more than 30 drawings and paintings of Waterland , made in and around Monnickendam, Broek, Uitdam and Zuiderwoude.

The exhibition at Noordeinde 2 in Monnickendam runs until 14 June 2026; for opening times, see www.despeeltoren.nl.

Dates on which Kris Spinhoven will be present for a Meet&Greet at the museum: 29 March 15:00, 19 April 15:00, 7 June 15:00.
