A book cover for *Zie Mij Staan*

Book launch of *Zie Mij Staan — De verborgen heldendaad van Trijn Jacobs* (See Me Standing — The Hidden Heroic Deed of Trijn Jacobs), the debut novel by Blanka Pesja

In 1655, Trijn Jacobs, a widow from Edam, walked to Gouda to free her friend Geertje Dircx from the spinning house — against the wishes of Rembrandt van Rijn. History reduced her story to a footnote; this evening, she will finally have her story told. The novel is based on several years of archival research, including the notarial deed of 6 May 1656, which records Rembrandt’s threat and Trijn’s journey.

Programme: reception from 7.00 pm, at 7.30 pm a talk on the archival research behind the book, at 8.00 pm the literary-musical performance ‘Silence by the Hearth’ for voice and digitised seventeenth-century flute. Followed by a book signing with the author.

Special feature: during the presentation, the original seventeenth-century deeds — bearing signatures — on which the novel is based will be on display.

Admission is free; please register via the website.
