The film 'La grande Arche' is a riveting drama about the construction of the monumental Grande Arche in Paris.

The stubborn Danish architect Otto von Spreckelsen is delighted when he emerges as the winner of Francois Mitterrand's competition to design the monumental arch in Paris' La Défense district. However, his enthusiasm soon gets bogged down in bureaucracy and political games. Daily meetings, technical difficulties and tricky negotiations turn this dream project into a nightmare.

The film is not so much about the intrigues as the inner tensions they cause in the protagonist. Director Demoustier uses architecture as a metaphor for the human desire for order and shows how grand architecture is not only a physical structure but also a projection of power, ambition and vulnerability. A wise lesson on the price of idealism within an inevitably compromising reality.
