Before and after this film, there will be a performance by Ronin lasting about half an hour. The pieces were specially selected for the film. Director Miloš Forman's 1975 classic anti-psychiatric film drama celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025.
The film won five Oscars and is based on British writer Ken Kesey's 1962 novel of the same name. The tease McMurphy, fantastically played by Jack Nicholson, is a gambling addict who tries to escape his prison sentence for sex with a 15-year-old by pretending to be mentally ill. He is admitted to a psychiatric institution in the ward of the hypothermic Nurse Ratched. From day one, he tries to disrupt the well-oiled machine she has made of the ward with a lot of turmoil, jokes, grandstanding and charm. The film is set in the 1950s when medicine, electrotherapy and brain surgery, were commonplace in psychiatry. Chief Bromden, a taciturn Navajo Indian who is believed to be deaf and dumb, but meanwhile has his eye on everything, is the narrator of the story.
