Star Borgman investigates natural processes, their stories and enchantment. Like an alchemist, he transforms or fuses their chemistry.
Ster extracts pigment from plants, melts sand into glass and transforms rust into dripping red shapes in glass. Star hopes to bring its audience into wonder with non-human nature.
Ster is interested in where science borders on magic, the plane where we know too little to understand but can sense it. Ster makes pigments from materials that Ster collects on walks and experiments with oxides of ancient metals, crushed rocks and vegetable dyes. Ster is also interested in the queerness of nature, which Ster sees as something boundless and fluid. Think of the dripping of glass, the leaking of rust and the tasty, almost sensual colours of flowers and plants. With his alchemy, Ster blurs the grid of science which divides the world into different groups such as gender, quantum particles and living or non-living nature.
