The screenplay of the film, titled 'Song sung blue', was written by Brewer and based on Greg Kohs' 2008 documentary of the same name.
That documentary told the true story of Mike and Claire Sardina, a couple from Milwaukee, who were struggling financially and became local icons by performing as the Neil Diamond tribute band "Lightning & Thunder". In the film, based on this true story, we follow two downtrodden musicians Mike and Claire (Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson) who decide to change course and start a Neil Diamond tribute band together. What begins as a last-ditch attempt to revive their musical dreams soon turns into a heartwarming adventure full of humour, hope and unexpected love. A film that proves it is never too late to start again.
