No need to stay indoors this winter, because Waterland is bursting with warmth and cosiness. The Waterland Promotion Foundation and the Tourist Board of Laag Holland are joining forces to promote Winter in Waterland. From atmospheric markets and enchanting concerts to cosy activities for the whole family: there is something to experience everywhere. Put on your coat, breathe in the fresh air and discover how beautiful Waterland is in winter.
Ice-skating in the Grote Kerk and Winter Fair Marken
On 12, 13 and 14 December, the Grote Kerk in Monnickendam will be transformed into a winter paradise. Visit the Winter Fair with atmospheric stalls, live music and a unique skating rink in the church. For €2.50 you will glide on the ice between centuries-old walls.
The Trefpunt on Marken will host the annual Winter Fair on 13 December, with local products, artisanal gifts and delicious treats.
Stroll past nativity scenes and winter walks
From 11 to 28 December, you can walk the Kerststallenroute in Monnickendam: an atmospheric walk along windows and facades with nativity scenes. If you love nature, enjoy a winter walk through the Waterland landscape. Finish with a hot chocolate at a cosy catering establishment.
Concerts and performances
Fans of music and theatre will be in their element this winter. In special locations, such as the Broeker Kerk church and the church in Zuiderwoude, a rich programme of concerts and performances will provide warm moments.
