The Leeghwater Route through Graft-De Rijp, De Schermer and De Beemster takes you through polder landscapes and picturesque villages. A beautiful walk with smoked eel as the main theme! The route takes you to the harbours of Volendam and Monnickendam where you can visit an eel smokehouse. A visit to the Palingsoundmuseum (Eel Sound Museum) in Volendam will make the day complete. In the adjoining restaurant you can enjoy a nice bread roll with smoked eel, a true delicacy.
