During this route you will cycle 4 metres below sea level. You will cycle 44 kilometres through the most unique polders from the Golden Age: the Schermer and Beemster. The route is named after Jan Adriaanszoon Leeghwater, the hydraulic engineer who supervised the creation of these polders. Enjoy an exceptionally beautiful part of the Netherlands where the 17th century windmills are still fully operational. The route passes along long, straight roads and ditches and winding dykes to picturesque villages such as De Rijp.
