Noordmeer trail

The Noordmeer trail is a theme walk using the alternative points of the North Holland Hiking Network. It is a round trip over the grass dike of the reclaimed Noordmeer, a deeply sunken polder that looks a lot like an empty bath tub. It is 6 km long.

The trail is marked by means of wooden posts with blue arrows and is inaccessible between 15th March and 15th June during breeding season. Dogs are not allowed.

The old land on the other side of the ring dike is an open peat marshland area, surrounded by reed, partly farmland, partly nature reserve. The ring dike offers a wonderful view of the nature reserve, Varkensland. This reserve is an Eldorado for grassland birds.

Description of particulars along the way.
These are listed in alphabetical order on the roadmap.
A. Havenrak
- Houses in Waterland style stand on the Havenrak. Timber construction was necessary because of the soft peat soil.
B. Meadow windmills
- On the edge of the nature reserve, Varkensland there are characteristic wooden meadow windmills. What you see here is a modernized version.
C. Oude Vennen
- The area north of Noordmeer is called the Oude Vennen, Vennen is Waterland for peat meadow. In comparison to the Noordmeer the water level is here extremely high. This is good for grassland and water birds.

The Noordmeer trail starts and finishes at Starting Point 11 in Broek in Waterland and runs past the following alternative points: 78, 77, 76, 75, 74, 75, 76 and 77.
There is parking in the centre of Broek in Waterland.
